Protocol Eliot Ness Maduro is joined by the Protocol Eliot Ness Natural, both being released in 2020 as a followup to the Sir Robert Peel cigars of 2019. With Eliot Ness, the brand commemorates yet another famed lawmen: Eliot Ness, a prominent FBI agent during the time of Prohibition, best known for his efforts to take down American gangster Al Capone.
This cigar marks the first Protocol release outside of the usual La Zona factory, instead being crafted at A.J. Fernández's San Lotano facility in Ocotal, Nicaragua. Notably, the maduro boasts a Nicaraguan-grown Broadleaf wrapper—a leaf rarely grown outside of the US. This is joined by an Estelí-grown Habano binder and Nicaraguan Corojo leaves from the viso and seco primings (harvested from Estelí and Jalapa) throughout the filler. The cigar is rolled without the use of high-priming ligero tobacco, another first for Cubariqueño.
