Seleccion de Cazador

You may know this cigar as Tatuaje Cabinet or Tatuaje Brown Label, but the official title is Tatuaje Seleccion de Cazador. Regardless, the cigars were introduced in 2003 by the modern “father of boutique cigars,” Pete Johnson.

Pete partnered with the then-unknown Don José “Pepin” García, crafting cigars with an eye towards classic Cuban techniques and authenticity—it is said that the blend was modeled after a custom-roll Cuban cigar Pete had become fond of during a previous trip to Cuba.

Seleccion de Cazador was originally rolled at the García’s El Rey de los Habanos factory in Miami (with some sizes now being produced in Nicaragua). The “original six” consisted of six sizes, with the first letter of each size combining to spell H-U-N-T-E-R—Pete’s beloved canine. This plays into the cigar’s name, which translates to “Selection of Hunter.”

Originally, the blend utilized all-Nicaraguan leaves, but switched to an Ecuadoran Corojo wrapper in 2010. Additionally, the cigars have since expanded to include multiple variants (such as Broadleaf and Reserva), size extensions (which are made in Nicaragua), and a limited edition 10th Anniversary size, among other spinoffs.
